Listen to the song Lucky by Britney Spears

This is a story about a girl named Lucky…Early morning
She wakes up
Knock, knock, knock on the door

It’s time for makeup
Perfect smile
It’s you they’re all waiting for

They go,isn’t she lovely
This Hollywood girl

Chorus
And they say she’s so lucky, she’s a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there’s nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night.

Lost in an image, in a dream
But there’s no one there to wake her up
And the world is spinning, and she keeps on winning
But tell me what happens when it stops?

They go…
“Isn’t she lovely, this Hollywood girl?”
And they say…

Chorus
And they say she’s so lucky, she’s a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there’s nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night

Ay-ay-yeah-eh-eh-yeah

“Best actress, and the winner is…Lucky!”

Ay-ay-yeah-eh-eh-yeah

“I’m Roger Johnson for Pop News standing outside the arena waiting for Lucky”
“Oh my god…here she comes!”

Isn’t she lucky, this Hollywood girl?
She is so lucky, but why does she cry?
If there’s nothing missing in her life
Why do tears come at night?!

Chorus
And they say she’s so lucky, she’s a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there’s nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night
she’s so lucky, she’s a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there’s nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night

Questions for discussion

1) what is this song all about?

2) Lucky is a star. She’s a celebrity. Why do you think there are tears in the night? Why does she cry in the lonliness of her heart?

3) She keeps on winning. But tell me what happens when it stops. Is her fears justified?

4) It’s cold and lonely at the top. Comment! what would your advice to Lucky be?

5) Lost in an image, in a dream/ But there’s no one there to wake her up. We live in a world of images. All the world is a image gallery. we are merely ‘images’. What are the pressures to be conformed to our ‘image’? Who are what can wake us up to reality?

6) We live in a house of mirrors. What happens when we have forgotten the real ‘me’? How do find the real “me”?

7) Why do we feel ’emptiness’inside? How do we find meaning? How do you know if its not a mirage?

8) Would you consider Lucky a “success”? Why? What is your definition of success?

9) One philosopher remarked, ” There is a god-shaped vacuum in each one of us and only God can fill it”.  Would Lucky have found her purpose if she had found God?
